“We think that YPAN, through its intensive educational work, contributes to bringing a culture of peace into the world”

We are happy to celebrate Peace Day with you by announcing that YPAN has been awarded the Shalom prize for the year 2022!

The working group (Arbeitskreis) Shalom is part of the Catholic University of Eichstätt in Germany.

They aim at contributing to the international respect of human rights and the promotion of peace. The working group has been founded in 1981, displaying a continuous line of commitment. With the Shalom Prize, the working group annually honors individuals or groups who work in an exemplary manner and often at considerable personal risk for the preservation of human rights and worldwide peace.

“This is the first time that we are not awarding a project from a specific country, but rather a supra-regional network. We believe this decision also reflects the complexity of conflicts and crises today. We think that YPAN, through its intensive educational work, contributes to bringing a culture of peace into the world,” said AK member Ulrike Schurr-Schöpfel.

We are more than honored to receive this prize as a recognition of our devotion to peace, education, empathy, human rights, and nonviolence. This is such a beautiful moment for us to look back to our beginnings, to recall every training, study session and workshop, to remember every participant and gentle soul that we met on the way. This is a moment for us to cherish our work until now, but also to keep dreaming big and working on peace-building and fostering peace education.

With a wish for peace education to be accessible to every individual and with our hearts and minds to those who suffer from different types of violence all over the world, we mark Peace Day 2022 by recalling our big and small contributions to peace and motivation to keep working on it even more.
